E171 – Titanium dioxide ban in food
France has banned the use of titanium dioxide (E171) in foodstuffs as of 1-1-2020.
The call for the European Commission to ban the use of titanium dioxide (E171) in food is becoming ever stronger. In a letter to the European Commission in May 2019, a request was made to remove this substance from the permitted additives list. This request was signed by, among others, de Consumentenbond (Dutch Consumers’ Association), the European Consumer Organization (BEUC) and foodwatch international.
